Andrew Eddie, the director of Joomla project wrote an informative article about the difference between Joomla and Mambo. He also explains the early history of Mambo.
From the article: "Even after this brief comparison, it could still be difficult to choose. It you are after features in the out-of-the-box download, toss a coin – really! If you are looking for slicker eye candy then Joomla! wins hands-down. If you are after reliability and stability then I believe Joomla! is better for you. Your decision though may simply come down to the fact that there is an extension for Joomla! but not Mambo (or that doesn’t work on Mambo). Joomla! is also supported by some of the most famous supporters and advocates of the Open Source movement." |

It's hard to keep a good news like this to yourself while we are working with it, but today I'm really excited to share this news with you.
Joomla Extensions Directory is launched today and this is something almost every Joomla users wanted. A central repository for all components, modules, plugins and languages for Joomla. No more searching on the forum and wonder if there is any components that do what you want. It does not covers all extensions at the moment, but we encourage all third party Joomla! developers to submit their own extensions to the directory. It's a great way to promote your extensions too!
If you haven't been there yet, go now. Submit your extensions, write reviews or simply vote for your favourite extensions.
The other exciting new is the fact that the directory is built entirely on top of Mosets Tree. This is the same version that our customers is using - Mosets Tree 1.56 with some customization done to the Savant2 template. The Extensions Directory proves Mosets Tree as being one of the best directory component for Joomla! During its development I have been able to add a few features to Tree to streamline the moderation job within the directory team. If you're a Mosets Tree customers, you should expect a new patch this week to have these features.
