Joomla 3.3The Joomla! project has released Joomla 3.3 last week and we are pleased to tell that Mosets Tree 3.5 is fully compatible with Joomla 3.3.

This new update for Joomla brings some new features that includes security enhancement, microdata support and improved performance. Because of the security enhancement, the minimum required PHP version has been raised to PHP 5.3.10 for this release. So make sure your web server is running at least PHP 5.3.10 before upgrading. If you're running a Joomla 3.2 site, upgrading to Joomla 3.3 is just a click away using Joomla! Update.

The Joomla project has also recently updated their release cycle, moving away from LTS/STS (Long/Short Term Support) towards a simpler version system that is used and generally accepted by users. You can read in detailed about it here.

What does this means to you?

  • If you're running Joomla 2.5, it means that you no longer need to wait for previously announced Joomla 3.5 that is marked as LTS release. You can upgrade to Joomla 3.3 today and be sure that it is supported by the Joomla project and has an easy to upgrade path towards the next minor release.
  • If you're running Joomla 3.2/3.3, it means you're going to get a steady improvement in future minor releases (3.x). Now that the Joomla project is not tied to any LTS/STS schedule, the project has more flexibility to implement new features as long as they don't break backward compatibility.

New top listings module for Mosets Tree 3
Written by CY
Friday, 29 March 2013
With the most recent Mosets Tree update, version 3.0.6, I've introduced a brand new version of the popular Top Listings module. If you've install 3.0.6, you'll recognize this as "Mosets Tree - Top Listings 3.0". The new Top Listings modules now provides layouts that used to be only possible when you are using Kinabalu site template. Here's a screenshot on the different type of layout possible with the new Top Listings module.

Top Listings module for Mosets Tree 3

When you create a new module instance with this new module, here are some of the few important Options you may want to know:

  • Default (tiles) Layout
    • Flow: The core of this new module comes from the new Tiles layout. Each tile represents a listing. The Flow option here allows you to control if you want the tiles to be laid out vertically (default()) or horizontally.
    • Hide Name: This option does what it says. When set to yes, the name of the listing is hidden in module. This is useful when you only when to show a list of thumbnails.
    • Image Size: Allows you to control the size os the thumbnail shown in the module.
    • Tile's Max Width / Tiles Min. Height: In most situation, the default layout may not be ideal due to the limited or excess space available to a module. These 2 options allows you to fine tune the minimum width or maximum height to achieve the best possible layout. You can enter values in percentage or in pixels. eg: 33% or 200px.

The old version of this module no longer works, you need to migrate to the new version of Top Listings to continue using the module.

I've also updated the Mosets Tree demo site with 3.0.6. You can see the new module in action throughout the directory. Enjoy!

Good Bye Hot Property. Hello Mosets Tree 3.
Written by CY

When I first introduce Hot Property in May 2004, it was an attempt to create an extension for Mambo CMS to allow developers and real estate agents to quickly and easily create and run a real estate websites. It has since enabled creation of thousands of websites based on Hot Property to showcase, not only real estate, but others such as autos, boats, business listings, profiles and many more.

In 2005, I introduced Mosets Tree to take on the directory space by offering a suite of flexible extensions to enable Joomla websites to run any type of directory. Directories that helps Joomla webmaster to organize any type of information that is fast, customizable and easily discovarable by users looking for the information they want.

With the release of Mosets Tree 3, we have taken some of the most popular features from Hot Property and introduce them to Mosets Tree. These includes, but not limited to:

  • Category Association: Allows user to assign a listing to another listing from another category. This essentially allow (for example) a property to be assigned to a real estate company.
  • User Profile: Listings can optionally include a user profile below a listing details page that shows the listing's owner profile. If you are building a real estate website, you can use this feature to show an agent profile with a brief information and ways to contact the agent.
  • Filter: This is an module that can be configured with a set of searchable fields to allow your users to quickly find the property they are looking for.
Using Mosets Tree for your real estate website also means that you'll get to use the rest of Mosets Tree 3 featureset, such as maps, reviews and attachments support. Plus, with the new multi-directory support in Mosets Tree 3, you can run a real estate listings and other type of directories simultaneously with a single instance of Mosets Tree running on your Joomla website. Visit the Properties category on our demo site for a live demo, on how you can use Mosets Tree for your real estate website.

With the merger of Hot Property features in to Mosets Tree 3 now complete, I today announce that Hot Property sales and development will cease as of today, 25 March 2013. All active Hot Property subscriber's support service will be honoured and be available until the end of the subscription period (12 months from the start of subscription).

If you have purchased Hot Property in the last 12 months, a new subscription for Mosets Tree has been credited to your Mosets account. You can login to your Mosets account at to download and start using it on your Joomla website if you choose to.

Thank you all who has supported and recommended Hot Property all these years. If you have any questions about this or plan to migrate to Mosets Tree from Hot Property, drop me a line and I will assist you in the best possible way.
